Donna Watson
Greater Bridgeport Junior Hockey Association
Over the last fifteen years, Donna Watson has volunteered in a variety of roles with the Greater Bridgeport Junior Hockey Association. Donna represents her commitment to the game of hockey and the youth hockey players not only in her goals as a volunteer. She also shows her commitment through her donation of time, even on Christmas Day.
Do you have any kids that play in the program?
My youngest son is on the Greater Bridgeport Riverhawks PeeWee A team. I have two older sons who both played youth hockey with Greater Bridgeport.
Why did you originally become a hockey volunteer?
I wanted to help out when my oldest son started playing. I became the Parent Manager. Back in those days it was called Team Mom.
What is your current role as a volunteer?
I am the Master Scheduler for Greater Bridgeport.
How long have you been a volunteer?
I started volunteering for Greater Bridgeport in 1993.
Why have you continued to volunteer over time?
I have found this a very rewarding commitment. My husband volunteers also so our entire family has been involved.
What capacities have you served as a hockey volunteer over time?
Parent Manager, Travel and House Team Scheduler, Master Scheduler and I am a member of the Board of Directors
What are your goals as a volunteer?
To aid in providing an opportunity for young athletes to have place to develop as hockey players, as well as, fine young men and women.
Why do you like being a volunteer?
THE KIDS!
Would you recommend other parents also volunteer and why?
This is a great way to share the youth hockey experience with your children.
What is the most extreme thing you have done as a volunteer?
Before games were scheduled on line and we had to make phone calls, I spent an entire Christmas evening making calls to replace a canceled game.
What is your most memorable moment being a hockey volunteer?
When my son's team cheered for my birthday at the start of their game.
