Player of the Month - October 2008

Trevor Pretty
Hamden Pee Wee A

Not only did Trevor's nominee recognize him for sportsmanship and team play, Trevor acknowledges the importance of setting a good example for his teammates and the community. Although he has endured a rough visit to the emergency room during a game, he still dresses up for the occasion both on and off the ice.

What team do you play for? I skate for Coach McCormack and the Hamden Youth Hockey's Pee Wee A team

What position do you play? This season I play right wing.

When did you start playing hockey? I think I started when I was about 4 years old in Clinic.

Do you play any other sports? I like to play lacrosse when I am not playing hockey. I was a center "middie" for Coach Sanino on the Hamden Junior team.

What is your favorite hockey drill? I really like the Whaler drill because there is a lot going on at once on the ice.

Do you have any superstitions before a game? No, I just play my hardest.

Do you eat a specific food before a game? No, I pretty much eat anything my Mom puts in front of me.

What type of music do you listen to before a game? Mostly rock - whatever my teammates like to play.

Who is your role model? My older brother (when he's not trying to beat me up!) because he is a good hockey and lacrosse player.

What do you do to stay in shape in the off-season? Playing lacrosse keeps me in shape. I roller blade and play with my dog Tucker.

How do you keep your hockey equipment from smelling? I don't do anything to keep it from smelling. Sometimes my Dad can't take it anymore and will dump everything in the driveway to dry it out. I love the smell!

What is your favorite professional hockey team? The New Jersey Devils.

If you could meet one professional hockey player who would you want to meet? It would be pretty sick to meet Joe Sakic. Colorado was my favorite team when I was younger and I always chose him when I played NHL '07. He would always score for me against my older brother's team.

What do you do to make your community a better place? I try to set a good example for others.

What is your favorite food? I will try pretty much anything. I love mostly all kinds of food except jelly unless it's with peanut butter. I really don't like celery.

What is your favorite subject in school? Health.

What do you want to be when you grow up? I don't know yet but I want to work with animals.

Where do you see yourself in five years? I will be in High School, driving my own car and maybe playing on the High School team.

What is your favorite hockey movie? Miracle.

Have you ever worn your skate guards on the ice? Yes, at the beginning of a game. I was pretty embarrassed but I laughed at myself and got over it.

Do you have any funny memories playing hockey? One time I forgot my t-shirt in my hockey bag and had to wear my dress shirt under my uniform during the game. My coaches had a lot of fun with that and I kind of kept wearing collar shirts for the rest of the season.

What is your most memorable moment playing hockey? Well, we won our division in the state tournament last season which was great because we did not win a lot of games last year, but, probably, so far, it would have to be when I had to go to the emergency room during an away game in Darien. I accidently got a deep cut on my ankle from another player's skate. I got 6 stitches. Coach Derrico and our team manager Mary Lord helped me out before my Dad took me to the hospital. The needles killed!
