Eli & Isaac Ward

When Eli and Isaac aren't busy playing baseball, soccer or hockey, they enjoy taking trips to Boston to watch the Boston University team play. Although they are two years apart and now play on separate ECHO teams, the boys still enjoy looking back on the humorous memories they shared when they starting learning to play hockey together.
What team do you play for?
Eli: I am playing on the Bantam A team this year.
Isaac: I play on the ECHO Pee Wee A team.
What position do you play?
Eli: At one point we were both playing defense on the same team, but now I play right wing.
Isaac: I still play defense.
When did you start playing hockey?
Isaac: The first time I put on skates was when I was 5 years old.
Eli: I was 6 and a half, but we didn't play on a travel team until one year later.
Do you play any other sports?
Isaac: We also use to play baseball and soccer. We tried travel soccer one year in addition to hockey. Between the two of us, our parents were dealing with four travel sports at the same time. We had to cut back a little because we now have a lot of homework. We just play recreational soccer and basketball now. We also play instruments.
What is your favorite hockey drill?
Eli: I like the full ice break out and then break in drill.
Isaac: I like the breakaway drills.
Do you eat a specific food before a game?
Eli: No, but my mom usually makes us banana smoothies with flaxseed oil.
Who is your role model?
Eli & Isaac: We've had great coaches and, of course, there's our dad.
What is your favorite professional hockey team?
Eli & Isaac: The Bruins. We also really like to see college hockey. We drive to Boston to watch BU games.
If you could meet one professional hockey player who would you want to meet?
Eli: Ovetchkin because he is one of the best NHL players in the US.
Isaac: Sydney Crosby because he is famous and rich. He is also a good player.
If you could play on a professional team which team would you play on?
Eli: I would play on the Bruins because they are my favorite team.
Isaac: I would play on the L.A. Kings because then I would get to live in Los Angeles.
What is your favorite food?
Eli & Isaac: Ice cream and candy.
What is your favorite subject in school?
Eli: Gym.
Isaac: I don't have one.
What do you want to be when you grow up?
Eli: An engineer.
Isaac: I just want to be rich, because I want to buy cool stuff.
Have you ever worn your skate guards on the ice
Isaac: Yeah, hasn't everyone?
Do you have any funny memories playing hockey?
Eli: Yeah, the first year that we played hockey there was this kid that was really fast, but he wasn't very good at stopping yet. One time he crashed into the net after scoring a goal and got the cage of his helmet stuck in the net. We were laughing and wondering how he did that.
What is your most memorable moment playing hockey?
Eli: When my team won the Newport Tournament.
Isaac: Every moment at the Lake Placid Tournament was memorable.
